1.1 billion people on this planet live on less than $1 a day. Most of these are rural smallholder farmers. They are industrious, hard working and entrepreneurial people. They have families and dreams and desires just like all of us. They deserve no less respect than we would wish for ourselves. They do not need nor do they desire hand outs. WHAT THEY NEED IS OPPORTUNITY.

The current model of aid to the developing world is not helping them at all. What it is doing is ensuring that they remain dependent. We believe that free market enterprise is the vehicle that can lift the poor out of extreme poverty and set them on a course toward economic development. How can we in good conscience continue to sit idly by while so many people fight so hard just to stay alive? We must act but we need to do it in ways that foster self reliance and sustainable results.
